The Instruction x The Assignment

Today's post is more like a bible study of the book of Genesis. I will focus on the story of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden and this will be discussed at different points throughout the year.

The Instruction

Prior to the creation of woman, God created man and set him in the garden of Eden, to dress it and keep it. Your Eden is wherever God places you on this earth and it is your duty to nurture it. - Genesis 2:15

The first mention of the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil is in Genesis 2: 9. Adam was instructed to eat from the tree of life and in Genesis 2:16&17, God made it clear that the day he eats from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, he will die. From these verses, we see that life opposes knowledge of good and evil. We also see that the knowledge of good and evil is born out of the same tree. Could it be that our quest for the knowledge of good and evil is what prevents us from tasting out of the tree of life. As humans, we are born with good and evil and that's why we have the constant struggle between what is right and what is wrong. The tree of life in the garden of Eden which represents Jesus. While the tree of knowledge of good and evil is more enticing, it also leads to the death of everything that God intended for us to benefit from the tree of life.

This instruction reminds me of the verse in Proverbs 3:5 "Trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him and He shall direct your path." Could it be that our need to discern good and evil or our need to figure life out is what prevents us from living the life that God has instructed and envisioned for us.

The Assignment

God created the Heavens and the Earth, beast of the earth, the fowl of the air and then He created Man. After placing him in the garden of Eden and giving him instructions to live by, he sent him on an assignment. In Genesis 2:19, God brought every living thing that he had created to Adam to see what he would name them. Could it be that your assignment on this earth, in your garden of Eden is to personalize everything that God has presented to you. Adam's assignment was to name every beast and fowl. My assignment could be to name every situation, every individual, every thing that walks in my garden of Eden. Adam had dominion and power and so do I. This means that no situation is bigger than me and no individual is greater than me. I have the power and dominion to speak life to any situation that surrounds me

Every Individual has an instruction and an assignment. To live a fulfilled life, you must first understand that your garden of Eden is your responsibility. You are responsible for every situation, every location you find yourself in. Your instruction is to eat out of the tree of life which is Jesus. When you focus on the tree of life, you don't have to spend your time trying to figure out what is good and what is evil. You are already certain that the tree of life will give you everything you need on your journey. Your assignment is to take dominion and authority over everything in your garden of Eden. For some of us, we don't have the most beautiful garden of Eden but what we have is the authority and dominion to make our Eden whatever we will it to be.

The Assignment reminds me of the verse in Luke 10:19, "I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you." Before we can talk about the creation of Eve, reproduction and family, we must first understand The Instruction and The Assignment.
